Starbucks' Stand for Safer Streets Spotlights 2010 Election Issue

By Mark Knapp | 02/09/10

See Guns/Self-defense piece by John Longenecker Kudos to Starbucks for standing up to the international gun-ban mafia!  Apparently the Brady Campaign started pressuring the Seattle based coffee maker to discriminate against law abiding customers that choose to wear pistols for protection of our own lives and the lives of others.  John Longenecker and other journalists recognize the way in which armed... read more »

Tea Parties; Selfish Disregard or Specter Haunting the Political Pros?

By Mark Knapp | 02/07/10

Our local newspaper editor, Andy Hobbs, penned an editorial in which he asked the residents of our suburban city whether the specter of a new Zeitgeist now haunts the land of political professionals.  The local country club is almost broke and offered a proposal for private homeowners living near the country club to pay an extra $300 a year in exchange for limited membership in the cash-strapped private country club.   Could it be... read more »

Federal Way Committed to Emergency Preparedness

By Mark Knapp | 02/05/10

Federal Way has very active volunteers that work with police and the area's networks of emergency personnel.  Many of us have attended CERT training and/or the Civilian Police Academy.  We had over forty students in our first Federal Way firearms law seminar on January 30th (not an offically sponsored event). The next class on Saturday, February 27th will focus on stopping home invasions and some of the finer points of... read more »

Linda Pillo, Bellevue Washington's police chief, was named chief in January, 2008. She bested five other candidates from around the nation. Pillo, 53, is the first woman chief in Bellevue. She told the local Seattle news media that running a police department was “something she never expected to do when she started police work on Mercer Island after graduating from Washington State University in 1978”. John Galt Alive & Well in Seattle

By Mark Knapp | 01/19/10

Long ago, I started reading a famous book called "Atlas Shrugged." All over the United States, people would ask each other, “Who is John Galt?” The land of the free had spiraled into profound mediocrity. Apparently, John Galt was and still is an urban legend symbolizing rugged individualism. Now I am asking, who is Mark Pursley? Pursley is not an urban legend. According to Danny Westneat, a Seattle Times columnist,... read more »

Our Living Constitution; A Modest Proposal

By Mark Knapp | 01/18/10

Should there be five-day waiting periods in order to obtain background checks for unregistered journalists?  I was recently surprised to find that another amateur journalist labeled my Federal Way Firearms Lawyer column as the “screaming mimi equivalent to the vile, contempatable (sic) and ignorant Glen Beck”.  I confess that I often listen to Glen Beck, a self-professed recovering alcoholic that has, nevertheless, managed... read more »

UN Gangsters or Chicago-style Progressives: In Whom Do You Trust?

By Mark Knapp | 12/17/09

Seattle is known as a congenial, outdoorsy city.  When I was coming of age in Chicagoland, Eliott Ness still symbolized the forces of reform standing in the gap against 1930's gangsters like Al Capone.  The story that was often missed by television viewers was that gangsters in Chicago joined forces with corrupt public officials during Prohibition.  They even bought and paid for the police!  It is not like that... read more »
