Last Thursday I missed the fund raiser but got intel that about 70 people attended the event at the Balboa Bay Club.  Nick Dourbetas is a deputy DA in Orange County and he is running for the Superior Court seat currently held by Judge Donna Crandall who will be retiring just in time for Nick to file and run in the June 2010 Primary Election.

Dourbetas raised over $20,000 at the event which combined with an already impressive six-figure campaign warchest means challengers need not apply.

Deputy DAs generally end up winning.  Its a super strong ballot title.  But Dourbetas is taking no chances.  He has lined up endorsements from the right people from Rep. Ed Royce and Ambasador George Argyros to the supervisors and Dick Ackerman.  Like most countywide electeds and candidates Dourbetas smartly has support from some Dems too, they include big-time attorney Al Stokke who was at the fund raiser as were several current Superior Court Judges and deputy DAs like fellow judicial candidates Scott Steiner and Andy Manssourian (all for different seats).
