Yesterday, once the write-in votes had been counted, it would have seemed to the casual reader that Murkowski has won.
But has she really? With votes like these?!
Here is part of an e-mail that was sent by Bill, an observer for the Miller campaign:

in the Penny Mayo picture, it shows an X over Lisa's filled in oval, and this was counted for Lisa.
I personally witnessed a case where Joe's oval was filled in, with an X over it, and Lisa filled in too. She called it for Lisa, the logic being, "the other ovals were filled in normally, so the one for Lisa must be the one that's the right vote, so Joe's doesn't count.
So one time the X-'d oval over Joe = Lisa vote !
The other time with the X-'d oval over Lisa = Lisa vote
Murcowshit= Lisa vote !

As you can see in the first photo, it would be impossible to definitively divine the voter's intent; it would seem this could well be a ballot that gets thrown out altogether. However, if a person just had to make a determination as to what went on here, most would likely conclude that the voter first wrote in Lisa Murkowski, then changed his mind (signaled by the 'X' over her filled-in bubble) and voted McAdams instead, right?
That's not how it went down, though: the ballot in the first photo above was actually counted for Murkowski!
Highlighting the outrageousness of that result is the second photo, which is shown here for 2 reasons:
- First, note that in the second ballot, the opposite conclusion was reached: when it was someone else's name that was seemingly crossed out, Murkowski got the vote counted for her again!
-Second, just a simple question: if the voter used a black pen to fill out his or her entire ballot-- and this was a voting booth ballot, not an absentee-- how did this person get hold of a blue pen to amend just the vote for Senate?
I wrote a few days ago about the laundry list of odd events and decisions that have happened during the ballot counting process. Given that literally every single one of them has broken in the favor of Lisa Murkowski, isn't it reasonable for supporters of the less sophisticated, less well-funded Joe Miller campaign to suspect their candidate is getting railroaded here?

And is anyone really surprised by this? Mur-COW-ski lost and couldn't accept not being in power. The people of Alaska apparently are either ridiculously stupid or Joe Miller is an incredibly poor candidate. This is why the majority of Americans want the status quo out of Washington. Elections like this will provide more fuel and perhaps a longer term catalyst for either changing the system or civil unrest. I do not advocate civil unrest but do feel as did Jefferson that a little revolution once in a while is a good thing.

We must not let the Democrats get away with the voter fraud at he polls they by now are famous for. I believe it happened when the Gore ran against Bush in 2000, we know for sure it did with Obama's presidential campaign, with Al Franken's, with Harry Reid's, with Jerry Brown's, and many others. Joe Miller absolutely should fight this for the sake of voting integrity reforms in the future. Even if the election results are not reversed, he would be the sacrificial lamb that saved the system from corruption. A big deal should be made of it to reinforce to the American people how corrupt the system is especially under the Democrats, Lisa Murkowsky is a typical "Rino" who might as well be running as a Democrat, so it is not unfair to say that she too can be counted among the Demobrats that cannot accept defeat, and will do anything to get it back. Joe Miller, by protesting loudly, is not one of those "brats", but in reality is fighting for justice.

you failed to notice an oval that was not filled (to the right) in for the bond issue. It was done in blue pen instead of the black pen, indicating the change being done after the vote was cast with a black pen.

What is so difficult about correctly filling out a ballot?

I have been working elections for years, and the rules in Florida as well as in NJ clearly state that if you make an error on a ballot, you can request another, as well as how they need to be filled out correctly. If you cannot manage to fill out a ballot correctly when given an unlimited number of chances and all the time in the world, you obviously lack the mental capacity to intelligently vote anyway. Therefore, if the ballot is not filled out correctly (one selection per race) and requires interpretation by third parties to determine your selection, it should be discarded. Those who say that the standard should be to determine the voters intent miss the point. Interpretation doesn't determine the voters intent, it just determines what the reviewer thinks the voters intent was. Voters should be made aware that if they want their vote counted, they should make the effort to correctly fill out the ballot so there is no ambiguity.

Miller lost
By almost two to one Alaska voters voted for somebody else, not Joe Miller, the Republican nominee.
That should tell you a lot. Miller may have been a favorite in the light turnout GOP primary but he was NOT the choice of Alaskans on election day.
Maybe if Miller hadn't been involved in so many things that undercut his credibility as a Tea Partier and his ethics in general. Maybe if he had shaved once in a while. Who knows? But he was definitely not the first choice for a clear majority of Alaskans and head to head with Murkowski - who was a write-in candidate fer chrissake - he couldn't muster enough votes for the win.

Had they reduced and eliminated their addiction to Fed tax dollars, they might have had a say. Voting in Murky was a vote against ANWR.

Second, Who ever tried to change the Votes on either of these ballots at the Voting Facility needs to be charged with voter election fraud. It is very apparent that the votor on the second ballot used a Black pen or marker to fill out the ballot. Then the Election volunteer changed this with a blue pen. THat is Fraud. I am so sick or dishonest people in elections. They need to be criminally prosecuted.
If the individual wanted to change this they should have destroyed the Ballot and re-filled out a new one.

Neither of these ballots should be counted...they should be tossed. The intent of the voter is 100% unknown! You should not have to "guess" as to who someone voted.

You and others have filled the gray matter with some pretty frightening facts. Now I understand why I was ignored when I asked party operatives to do more to protect the ballots. In Michigan we saw to it that poll watchers guided the count and the transfer of ballots. I am shocked that Republicans (in name only) have been so blase about ballot protection. Good job, Tom. We are pretty well there in most of the cities and large towns - the "have-nots" demanding the "haves" support them in the manner they wish. Maybe the Founders had it correct in their restrictions that only those contributing to our society should get to make its rules.
Fight on Joe - we need to reclaim the rule of law instead of the rule of feelings by bureaucrats.
