Red County

Having to work all day, I am coming in late on the Politico story that states our Lt. Gov is not going to count ballots that have Joe Miller written on them:

In another boon for Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, write-in ballots cast for Republican candidate Joe Miller won’t count toward his total vote count. Alaska’s Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell, who oversees elections, told the Associated Press that write-in ballots for Miller will be tossed out

If this is indeed true, then Campbell would be violating the intent in this Alaska law

(9) Write-in votes are not invalidated by writing in the name of a candidate whose name is printed on the ballot unless the election board determines, on the basis of other evidence, that the ballot was so marked for the purpose of identifying the ballot.

I have not seen a change to the law nor have I seen it reported that Campbell has changed his stance - so it must be assumed that Campbell wants to disenfranchise voters who decided to write Joe Miller in.

Moreover, it would look bad - it would make Campbell look like he is in the tank for Murkowski.

As a side note to this; I came across an individual who was interviewed by Ms. Vauhini Vara from the Wall Street Journal. She had asked the individual when he wasleaving the polling place, who he had voted for - and he replied that he had voted for himself in the U.S. Senate race.

I found out the individual interviewed, had his friends (15) vote for him and three of those fifteen had their friends vote for them.

So I have to ask, how much of a motivator Murkowski's write-in was, in having people write-in other names?

Update: Campbell changed his stance on Joe Miller write-in votes being counted.

Court-battle looming.

Sounds like a great court battle to me.

This is why...

...state races count so much the election before--if there is any wiggle room (or even if there isn't) many of these state officials can use their office to impact elections up and down the ticket.

Think it doesn't help if your secretary of state or other ballot counter isn't from the right party?

How much impact will these state races that just turned R have on the next election?

Where does he think he

Where does he think he lives..the old USSR???!!!

Sounds like the establishment

Sounds like the establishment Republicans are as much to be abhorred as the Democrats.

Well, it appears that Sarah

Well, it appears that Sarah Palin was right when she used the words,  "corrupt bastards."

The pot calling the kettle black?

Seems to be some great confusion here.  The Parnell/Campbell Administration is a consequence of the Palin/Parnell Administration.  Palin and Parnell ran for governor/ lieutenant governor together.  They are politically virtually the same, having similar core values and beliefs.  So is what you are saying that Parnell and Campbell are corrupt?

When governor Palin resigned, the Craig Campbell was the commander of the Alaska National Guard.  He was nominated to succeed Parnell when he became governor.

Before you make assumptions about corrupt anything, you ought to understand the facts.  If they are corrupt, then former governor Palin certainly is tinged by the same broad brush with which you are painting Mr. Campbell.  I doubt that was your intent, but that is the appearance for all intents and purposes.

Campbell now says the

Campbell now says the write-ins for Miller will count,  Campbell was asked to explain himself of the change but declined to comment.       lol    this is nothing more then total corruption in the state not to mention DC, oh did you hear? murkowpie will get the same lawyers that Bush had against Kerry for the bs that went down in the Florida election scam..  also, the same judge that ruled on the write-in polices is the same judge that big daddy Frank Murkowpie appointed..go figure...

Corruption? Yes these folks are Palin minions

Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell

Lt. Governor Craig Campbell is in a conflict-of-interest matter due to the fact he got his start in state government by being appointed by Lisa's daddy, when he was Governor Frank Murkowski.s
