As I was up early this morning watching the financial markets, I happened to go over and click on to the CA Citizens Redistricting Commission webpage. Sure enough at 3am this morning, give or take, all the new districts had been posted. Here is the link for them.
After perusing them for a few minutes, I would have to say that they most resemble the look of the last draft that came out, not the first draft that was originally posted and the one that I spoke about here last week.
My first impression is that the most intriguing thing of them all are the new Congressional lines in OC. Instead of a battle royale between Dana Rohrabacher and Loretta Sanchez, the Commission decided to draw lines that will most likely pit John Campbell against Dana Rohrabacher. Loretta's current central county CD will get the addition of more Republican areas of Garden Grove. It's now an imminently winnable seat for the GOP.
Elsewhere, a new CD goes from Orange/Villa Park down to most south county cities. I've already been hearing through the grapevine that current Congressman Ed Royce has been making calls to electeds in this new district seeking endorsements. If this is true, this will leave the new North Central CD an open seat. Again the inside info says that should these lines hold up and Royce opts for the aforementioned district in south county/Orange, Supervisor Shawn Nelson and Assemblyman Chris Norby could potentially face off for this coveted seat. Lastly, the cities of Dana Point and San Clemente are drawn together with areas of North Coastal SD County currently represented by Congressman Darrel Issa.
I'll do separate posts about the new State Senate and Assembly districts.

Wouldn't Campbell Slide Over
Wouldn't John Campbell slide over to the new open district thus keeping the delagation status quo?
No because Ed Royce is
No because Ed Royce is already doing that...at least that's what I'm hearing. There's nothing to stop from Campbell from running in that district.
Electeds Sweating
It is very comical to watch these electeds try to shake up the political landscape, but they will only fool themselves.
Royce run in a district that he can't even vote for himself on a ballot, because he lives in Fullerton.
I suspect Royce is doing this to break up the power that Norby and Nelson has in North Orange County or make things easier for Gary Miller to run in the North Orange County Congressional District instead of the district in Diamond Bar.
Therefore, watch out for these curve balls from the electeds as they try to do these sneaky chess moves, because politicos like us will not allow it and will call them on it!
