Conservative Republican Alliance(CRA) and Broward GOP make nice
By Javier Manjarres | 08/31/09 | 03:38 PM EDT | 26 Comments
Last week my friend Roger Stone called me and asked me to join him for lunch with Broward GOP Chairman, Chip LaMarca. This meeting was arranged in the wake of the Broward Republican Executive Committee monthly meeting, an event that ended in disunity when a motion to take a straw poll for the forthcoming U.S. Senate race in Florida was shot down. Crist-Rubio battle for U.S. Senate nomination splits Broward Republicans.
Chairman LaMarca originally reached out to me through a mutual friend, Patrick Castronovo, and the arrangements for the meeting were worked out by Roger Stone. I personally commend the Chairman for
extending the olive branch to me and I thank Roger for offering to act as a mediator to resolve this rift. Chip and I discussed some personal issues and differences that needed to be addressed. Since we are both the same page as far as getting Republicans elected to office, we felt it prudent to work together to do just that.
Chairman LaMarca acknowledges that I am a staunch Marco Rubio supporter and that I will not compromise any of my principles just to make peace. I told Chip that the Conservative Republican Alliance
(CRA)will continue supporting Marco Rubio over his friend Governor Charlie Crist , but will also be supporting Attorney General Bill McCollum, Edward Lynch, Allen West, and all other Republican candidates that the CRA deems as conservative candidates.
The forthcoming elections in 2010 will be crucial for the Party, as we seek to retain the Governorship and several key cabinet positions. The Party also needs to either retain or win back numerous seats in both the state legislature and in Congress. I look forward to having the Broward GOP work alongside the Conservative Republican Alliance as we spread the Republican message in our county and across our state.

Looks like the Republican party is finally realizing that they need organizations like the CRA to win elections.
As for Stone, easy on the bleach.
You folded! This needs to be about electing conservative republicans. The more we move to the center, the more we lose.
Gag me with a flame-thrower!
Javier rising!!!!!!!!
no he is not.
Let's hope that the local party sees that we do not support centrist/liberal Republicans like Crist. We need more Rubio's and West's in Florida.
We do not want a John McCain or Crist type of Republican -- as they can't win elections. They try to go across the isle and win the favor of Democrats by accepting their ideas! Wrong!
Our ideas are best for everyone ... especially the poor who have been duped by democrats for their votes!
Remain who we are, keep our platform simple:
Lower taxes, smaller government, support entrepreneurs, respect for life, strong national defense and freedom!
It's a no brainer ...
It is understandable that Chip must support Crisy/Greer, being the loyal party chairman, but that is how the Republicans now have their tale in a national knot...Crist is Pelosi in pants...Greer too clownish for discussion. Our "party leaders" keep chasing votes in the liberal camp. McCain a main speaker at the eulogy for most reprehensible Liberal in Washington..Ted Kennedy..also very high on the campaign contribution list from environamentalists and arab associations. Our Florida "R"s raised every fee they could find...cars..court..utilities...etc. Not even Obama has done as much to scuttle the Republican Party. That is why Marco has a chance, because every conservative has had all he can stomach.
Yes, in did, we are fighting for the best man to win. We all know that the Republican Party needs new blood that is not tarnish by the liberal agenda promoting the illegal slaves, killing our small business and families. My biggest disappointment was to see my governor running for the senate without finishing his term. I always have been his supporter of his. I start question his wisdom, and more now by picking a bird of his own feathers. I am also questioning my own groups of women. Why were not a conservative woman selected, and more so, no Spanish American who can bring back the large number who defected to the Democrats and independent. Where is his wisdom, only foe his own instant gratification, because for the party has not been? As we say in Spanish “Que sera, sera
Funny how you wrote it's an "event that ended in disunity when a motion to take a straw poll for the forthcoming U.S. Senate race in Florida was shot down." So what you're saying is there can only be unity if there IS a straw poll? Seemed to me the vote was unified against having a straw poll that night.
In looking in from outside of the BREC box and on the political side lines I can unequivacably say that there was disunity prior to that meeting. It started when Republican forgot what they stood for and starting acting like progressive liberals. When having the majority in the house and senate they spent money like they had found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Lets be really honest with ourselves and own up to having dropped the ball when it was in their favor. I am an independent but I vote conservative and I am tired of the old school of follow the leader. We should all look in the mirror and follow that leader instead of going with the status quo. Lets get the republican party back to its roots and re-read the preamble of what being republican really means.
Olive branch? Javier, you should have told him where he could put the olive branch. If the RPOF really was concerned about retaining the governor's chair, they would tell Crist to get back to work and finish fixing the mess he has made of Florida. Today I hear that the fee for license plates and drivers licenses are doubling in Florida. I recall clearly that charlie narci-crist promised to decrease property tax and property insurance rates. It seems he has not delivered on either of those. Instead we have other fees and taxes being raised. Can ANYONE tell me anything he said he would do during his last campaign that he has delivered on? ANYONE? ANYTHING?
I don't care one whit about the republican party keeping seats- when they are not conservatives. It may be preferrable to have democrats in office who are at least honest about their positions.
Cindy,I agree with you on what you say about Governor Crist. But, we do need to retain seats. Bad enough Charlie is leaving and making our jobs alot harder than it should be. So we need to support the candidates not the RPOF. Donate to them and to the CRA:)
Cindy, you are exactly on the correct point. There are a number of honestly conservative candidates running for the various offices... Crist is not one of them. Marco is a great example of conservative (formerly known as Republican) values. Some of the other great ones who are running for Federal offices:
District 19 - Ed Lynch - http://electlynch.com/ - running against Wexler
District 20 - Robert Lowry - http://lowryforcongress.com/ - running against Wasserman Schultz
District 22 - http://allenwestforcongress.com/ - Running against Klein
We need to look at both a "top down" as well as a "ground up" approach to this.. Think of it as "Trickle down Conservatism"! We have to support the candidates that will genuinely challenge this hellish Liberal agenda. Candidates whose heart beats to the word "Constitution", not the word "compromise".
Hello? Earth to the Older BREC Lady! The straw poll was not struck down. Brec is having both candidates speak and then we are having a straw poll at a later date. hello....hello... hello???????
Looks like Javier sold out to the suits!
Let Gov. Crist an Marco Rubio fight it out for the nomination in the primary. Who ever wins we should all support so we can beat that other group who are trying to destroy this country.
I will listen to both sides an then vote. If the person I support does not win I WILL SUPPORT THE WINNER. Our country is at stake, we must win.
I completely agree with you, Al. I don't know who I'm voting for yet, but I can agree that we will support the winner of the Republican primary.
I'M STILL BACKING MARCO RUBIO. BUT I GIVE CHIP ALOT OF CREDIT FOR BRINGING US ALL TOGETHER! THAT'S WHAT A TRUE LEADER DOES! WAY TO GO CHIP! NOW LET'S GET BACK TO THE OLD DAY'S AND FIGHT THE DEM'S AND NOT EACH OTHER!!!

Well said, Patrick. We need everyone if we are to win this. I admire Chip and Javier for getting together to discuss how everyone can work together.
Earth to you, Older BREC Man,
The motion was tabled until both candidates get a chance to come before us. Then, we will have a vote on whether to have a straw poll. The vote was unified against having a straw poll vote on the night of the last meeting. I certainly don't agree with the statement made on this blog that we need to have a straw poll to have unity.
Listen you old bag BREC Lady...Your wrong! Now take your midol and go to bed! Straw poll in the hizeee!
My vote is with Marco Rubio.
I think Rubio is too conservative and will easily be defeated if he gets nomination
but 6 years of Crist will drive us all crazy so let campaign process go on which
may sway independent as well as Rep voters as Crist has failed to deliver on all
his promises.
http://www.senateguru.com/diary/824/flsen-new-rasmussen-poll-and-vacancy-update NEW RASMUSSEN POLL SHOWS THAT (R) MARCO RUBIO WOULD BEAT (D) MEEK 43-30% IN A GENERAL ELECTION.
Javier Manjarres, who has only been on the Republican scene for about a year, is a destructive element in the party and should be marginalized. He constantly tries to tear people down and start fights within the party just to make himself seem important. Nothing constructive whatsoever.
