Congressman John Spratt (D-SC-5th) Has No Plans For Any Town Hall Meetings1
By Drew Johnson | 08/04/09 | 09:25 PM EDT | 17 Comments
The entire country continues to debate healthcare reform at a fevered pitch. The debate will, and should, only increase in volume throughout the August recess. The stakes could not be any higher.
The Democratic Bill (H.R. 3200 America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009)will drastically change the manner in which healthcare is administered in this country. Private industry cannot compete with the Federal Government and that is a primary goal of this legislation. The Bill seeks to eliminate private insurance plans by 2013 and even fine citizens who do not wish to participate in the plan. This will increase taxes on individuals and businesses. Do we really want to increase the burden on both individuals and business in the current economic environment?
U.S. Congressman John Spratt (D-SC 5th) does not plan to hold a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the HealthCare legislation. I have a long list of provisions I would like to hear my Congressman explain, but apparently, he is not very interested in addressing anything in a public forum. He has a duty to do so, and I call upon Congressman Spratt to stand in a public forum and explain to the people of the 5th Congressional District why he plans to vote for a bill he knows is unpopular in his Congressional District. I assume he plans to continue to ignore his constitutes.
I encourage everyone to call his office and voice their opinion on this issue. His office representative name is Charlie McDowell.

Let's schedule a town hall meeting outside his Rock Hill office.

|A town hall meeting outside Spratt's office...Great idea! Just let me know the date and time!

|Just got off the phone with Congressman Spratt's office in Rockhill, SC. Called to inquire about Spratt's stance on the Obama Health Care Plan and if he plans on holding any townhall meetings regarding this subject. His office rep. stated that the Congressman is recovering from surgery and has not yet been released by his Doctor. He went on to say that there are no plans of yet for a townhall meeting, but the Congressman favors that the current process to push through sweeping Health Care Reform should be slowed down. I suggested that if the Congressman really feels this way that it may be a good idea for him to come out and say it. Although, I have yet to see such statements to pull back from the current push toward reform on his website, I believe that it's starting to get hot in the kitchen and the Spratt is beginning to feel the heat. Keep it up America!

|What is he afraid of? If he has truthful answers, then he should be anxious to share them. I'll be there too!

|Foot surgery? Is he unable to sit in a chair? He's avoiding the people he represents. Look at Spratt's voting record. He is 100% supportive of Pelosi's agenda and this issue is no different.

|Congressman Spratt needs to listen to the voters in his district. I understand he just had a medical procedure but he still has time to hold a forum in August. I also suggest he discourage hired Left Wing activists from being sent to the 5th to show support for HR 3200 that does not exist!

|Congressman SPRATT is so cowardly and such a "yellow dog democrat" he won't even condescend to appear among people he regards as the " great unwashed" to tell us why he supports this medical disaster reform bill.
Please relay to him that this will NOT be forgotten next Fall and, hopefully, the next foot surgery he undergoes will be to remove both of them from his mouth and all the other feet of opposition voters from his fat, lazy ASS !!
Bye bye Spratt .... you been in there TOO LONG !!!

|A meeting should be scheduled. Congressman Spratt should be summoned to appear before us as the voters that elected him to this job representing us. If he dose not show to talk about the HC bill the discussion could turn to recall and replacement by someone that does listen to voters. In his defense, savey politicians don't go to meetings when their feet don't work well.

|I wrote Spratt regarding health care and a town hall meeting to discuss it and received a response from him of his GLOBAL WARMING thoughts. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN GLOBAL WARMING, WE HAVE MORE IMPORTANT TOPICS TO DISCUSS IN Aug of 2009! Hope he is recovering from surgery and can set up a time to work for the people of South Carolina.

|Let the voices of the people be heard loudly in Washington, DC. So if these rep do not want to represent us the people then lets get rid of them...get out and vote these so called representatives out of office and let's set term limits.

|Reading the blog above the writer stated that the Congressman's Office in Rock Hill infomed them that he had surgery - guess he decided to get it done before the Health Care bill he supports goes into effect and he get's put out on his ear!
I have written twice to the Congressman expressing my displeasure and not even the courtesy to respond. I haven't heard a peep from him on any media outlet - so I guess he's telling us passively that he just don't care what we as voters have to say.
I say we throw them all out and start again with term limits on Congress as well.

|I don't believe that John Spratt could really care less about what his constituents in the 5th District think about the direction of health care reform in Washington. He is a big shot committee chairman with over 26 years in Congress. Guess we should all just stand back and let him do his thing.
I do believe he will return to his true "K-street" friends, soldier up for Nancy Pelosi and give the liberal left his support by voting for a bill that no one here understands or wants. He has already made up his mind and the fix is in. This bill (HR 3200) or some form of it will be pushed through for Obama's signature one way or another.
I don't believe John Spratt thinks we will remember all this when the next election rolls around in 2010.
I do believe he will be surprised... if he decides to run again. It's gettin harder to pull the pork out of D.C. and the vote of regular folks should make a bigger difference.
I don't believe he will schedule a town hall because he lacks the guts to face us here at home to explain what he likes in this health care reform and why he intends to vote for it.
Sorry if you thought he represents you. Hope he proves me wrong.

|I plan to actively campaign against him during the next election. I am going to inform people (those who do not pay attention) how their representive has voted on the issues. I'm sure most will be astounded to find out the truth.... he's not for the people he represents. His own voting record is going to help us put him out of office!

|Why should anyone have a town hall for the insurance guys to scream and yell for the cameras. At least tell the tin foil hatters to not show up wearing the name of the company on their shirt. What morons.
