I have known U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson since he was a South Carolina State Senator and I was a student at the University of South Carolina. While I would have preferred he not have blurted out his now famous phrase during a joint session of Congress, I continue to stand with him. The fact remains that that President Obama was not telling the truth.

President Obama stated Wednesday night  "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants.  This, too, is false - the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."

Nothing in H.R. 3200, or any other Democrat bill, would require individuals to verify their citizenship. While Sec 246 of H.R. 3200 does state that illegal immigrants will not be covered, it fails to define a method requiring the verification of citizenship or an individual’s identity

SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

**H.R. 3200 does not create/define a method requiring the verification of citizenship or an individual’s identity. Undocumented Aliens would be covered **

U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson is a great American. He has served this country as member of the United States Military and as a member of the United States Congress. He is a warrior for conservative’s causes and I am proud to stand at his side anytime.   Join me and donate to Congressman Joe Wilson’s re-election campaign. If you another reason just refer to the following email sent out by www.moveon.org this week.

Rep. Joe Wilson heckled President Obama during his big speech on Wednesday. Now progressives are teaming up to fundraise for Wilson's Democratic opponent. Can you chip in $20?
Donate now

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday, ignoring the calls from leaders within his own party, Rep. Joe Wilson refused to apologize on the House floor for shouting out "you lie!" during President Obama's big health care speech.1

In fact, he recorded a new YouTube video defending his attacks on Obama's health care plan and requesting donations for his re-election campaign!2

This is the kind of disrespectful and dishonest behavior we've come to expect from right-wing mobs and talk radio hosts recently—but it's simply unacceptable for a member of the United States Congress.
Fortunately, we've got a great opportunity to replace Joe Wilson in Congress. Rob Miller is a Democrat and an Iraq war veteran, and last year he won 46% of the vote against Wilson despite raising half as much money.

Grassroots progressives are teaming up to help Rob Miller take on Joe Wilson, raising over $750,000 in less than two days. They've set a goal of raising of $1 million—can you chip in $20?

While Wilson initially apologized to the White House for his outburst, by yesterday he was already backpedaling. He refused calls from leaders of both parties to apologize on the House floor and claimed that he had been "overwhelmed" with supportive phone calls.3

And the conservative media is defending Wilson. Rush Limbaugh said on his show yesterday that Wison shouldn't have apologized.4 Sean Hannity, who had Wilson as a guest on Fox News, told him, "You're right and the president is wrong," and urged viewers to donate to Wilson's campaign.5

This is mean-spirited right-wing politics at its worst—and we've got to fight back. As President Obama said Wednesday night, "I won't stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what's in this plan, we will call you out."

Let's help Rob Miller take on Joe Wilson. Click here to chip in:

Thanks for all you do.

It was fifty-five years ago but well worth remembering...

McCarthy: Mr. Chairman, may I say that Mr. Welch talks about this being cruel and reckless. He was just baiting. He has been baiting Mr. Cohn here for hours, requesting that Mr. Cohn before sundown get out of any department of the government anyone who is serving the Communist cause. Now, I just give this man's record and I want to say, Mr.Welch, that it had been labeled long before he became a member, as early as 1944 --

Welch: Senator, may we not drop this? We know he belonged to the Lawyers' Guild. And Mr. Cohn nods his head at me. I did you, I think, no personal injury, Mr. Cohn?

Cohn: No, sir.

Welch: I meant to do you no personal injury.

Cohn: No, sir.

Welch: And if I did, I beg your pardon. Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator.

McCarthy: Let's, let's --

Welch: You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

McCarthy: I know this hurts you, Mr. Welch.

Welch: I'll say it hurts!

McCarthy: Mr. Chairman, as point of personal privilege, I'd like to finish this.

Welch: Senator, I think it hurts you, too, sir.

McCarthy and Wilson: No Sense of decency

Instead of this stupid blog supporting a man who doesn't have an ounce of decency in his body you should be asking Republicans to put room between themselves and the likes of Joe Wilson.  McCarthy hurt the Republican Party.  Wilson did, too.  How dense can you be?

Your blog would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Totally Impractical Talking Point

Drew Johnson writes:

"Nothing in H.R. 3200, or any other Democrat bill, would require individuals to verify their citizenship."

Well, duh.  Have you ever been in an ER on a Saturday night?  Ever been with EMTs as they arrive at the scene of an accident?  While the person is bleeding to death let's roll their bloody thumb on a scanner to check their citizenship.  Let's make hospitals and first responders an arm of law enforcement.

Your point sounds reasonable but it is totally impractical.  Illegal aliens get health care today at the ER and from first responders because it's impractical to check - not to mention inhumane.  So by requiring identification for health care you will force people back to the ER - where they will ge treatment - which by now I hope even you realize is a more expensive way to deliver health care than through routine visits and treatment that gets in front of problems.

Too bad your ideology doesn't allow you to think through problems.  Combined with the foul breath of people like Joe Wilson it's just another reason the Republican Party is becoming irrelevant.

If you do not have the

If you do not have the strength of character to put your name why don't simply not bother to comment. ER is an entirely different discussion. I agree that we should treat emergencies but not Non-Emergencies in the ER. We should not pay for illegals. We are bankrupting our country and that is the truth.

Drew...how is that?

Sure, attack me for being anaonymous.  Is that because you can't attack the logic?  How are you going to determine what's an emergency or not when someone comes in the ER, Drew?  By checking their citizenship?  If someone is bent over holding their stomach was it a little too much pizza or acute appendicitis?

Why continue to pretend you know what you are talking about?

Have - you - ever - met - an - illegal - alien - outside - of - some - service - position?  Do you know any of these people - who they are, what they care about why they came into our country?

I have.  I know a young lady, for example, who was brought into the U.S. at the age of seven.  She's an adult now.  She knows NOBODY in Mexico.  Should we send her home along with her two children who's father is an American citizen?  Or just send her home by herself?  She holds a job, works hard, pays taxes and the whole bit.

Do - you - know -- I mean really know -- any - illegal - aliens - at - all?

Logic?  Don't kid yourself.

Logic?  Don't kid yourself.   The Senate is already adressing the issue so your point is already mute.  It must be difficult to be so angry all the time. Angry and mis-led is a bad combination.  The issue is not the illegals it is the tax paying Americans that have to pay for legislation like this.  There are methods to reform healthcare but creating another failed government program is not one of them.

That took guts

The guy has a point, Obama was lying. To tell the President that he's lying doesn't mean he's a hater, it doesn't mean he's a racist. It means he was telling the truth. Whether or not it was the time to say it is neither here nor there. It's time someone cut through the BS of this hope and change to the heart of what it is: a lie.

My Take

JOE, DON'T YOU HAVE ANY DECENCY IN YOUR DISRESPECTFUL BODY. I GUESS THAT IF PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA ASK YOU TO JOIN THE MILITARY CAUSE YOU WERE NEEDED, YOU WOULD PROBABLY GRAB YOUR BALLS AND MAKE A DASH TO CANADA. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU APPEAR ON MSNBC ON RACHEL MADDOW OR WITH KEITH OLBERMAN INSTEAD OF PUSSY FOOTING WITH THOSE ANTI-PARTISAN DINGBATS AT FOX. WHY DO YOU CONSERVATIVES ALWAYS RUN TO FOX NOICE? YOU OWE OUR COUNTRY A DEEP APOLOGY FOR DISHONORING OUR PRESIDENT. IF YOU NOTICE I DIDN'T RESPECT YOU BY ADDRESSING YOU AS CONGRESSMAN AND THAT'S BECAUSE I WANT TO DISRESPECT YOU TOO.

Dignity and standing around

Dignity and standing around the world! Obama has done that on his own through is world wide apology tour.  The disgrace is the policies of the Democratic Congress and this President.  Futhermore, to use the race card as Jimmy Carter and others have done this week is one of the most pathetic acusations I have ever witnessed.  Chicago politics on a national level now has center stage and they are losing the faith of the American people more and more every day and none of this has anything to do with race but has everything to do with political idiology.

Conservatives will not step aside simply because the left wants us to do so.  We will be intimidated by threats.  We will stand up for our beleifs and values and fight for what is right. If lies are told we will set the record straight.  Count on it!!!!!

the truth

My desire is that you and everyone else that keeps saying that Congressman Wilson was wrong in what he said and how he said it, would stop. Congressman Wilson in my mind is the only person in Washington that can tell the truth. He knows what a LIE is and he knows a LIAR when he sees one. I wish that I had a great deal of money I could give to him, but I don't. I will try to influence as many people as I can to re-elect him though. Thank you Joe for your service.

It was a JOINT Congressional

It was a JOINT Congressional session. A Unites States Congressional session that has been an institution for centuries. A yahoo from South Carolina has to disrepect a tradition. Sorry, this was the President of the United States in Congress, you and Wilson need to go back to your grandparents ancestry and learn respect and decency towards another person. The Internet may allow for bloggers to slam people behind masks, but you don't do this to the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES in front of his constituents. South Carolina's founding fathers must be rolling in their graves with Wilson and Sanford leading their State. (Not hiding behind a mask) Bud Aiasol, Cleveland Ohio.
