Just A Little Hiking Trail

In the grand scheme of things, in light of all of the attention that has been paid to the national elections this may seem like a small story with no big news, but like what has been said many times over, all politics are local.

This is just a little story about biking/hiking path being proposed in Cobb County that involves the biggest city in the county, Marietta.

The big benefit of this story to the Republicans is this. For all of smearing by the liberals of how conservatives are nothing but greedy capitalists who want to do nothing but rape mother earth of her resources and leave a blight upon the land this time it is the Republicans who are taking the lead on helping to get this trail constructed, in spite of the best efforts of government regulations to prevent it. It is stories like this that Republicans need to highlight so that they can prove they are not the enemies of the environment that the liberals have been able to portray them as.

For me it also points to something else that a lot of Americans are looking for in this age of massive urbanization, that small town feel.

The trail is slated to run through the town square area of Marietta. It is an area in Marietta that in spite of the massive growth in the area in the last couple of decades that has managed to maintain that old southern charm and feel. It is located next to the big government center for the county but it is an area populated with a small park, which is used in the summer time for family picnics and gatherings and surrounded by small shops and diners. There is still parallel parking, remember that, and railroad tracks and big old theater.

It is simply a reminder of the days when for most of us life seemed much simpler and life moved at a slower pace.

The trail is a chance to connect the cities of Kennesaw, another town which quite literally exploded overnight, and Marietta.

The politicians who have been called in to help sheperd this through the local government are US Senator Johnny Isakson and US Representative Phil Gingrey, both Republicans.
In the part of the county I live in we already have a similiar trail called the Silver Comet Trail which actually goes all the way to Alabama.

So while it seems like a little thing, sometimes it is the little things that make life worth living.

And something those on the national stage need to learn how to highlight.

By the way, the funds are already there to build it and approved. No bailout money needed. You see around here we know how to balance a checkbook.

Cobb County is not the only ones doing things like this. Here is a story from another north Georgia area which wants to improve an existing highway to incorporate accommodations for bicyclists. They aren't asking for  government money or tax increases. They are asking their citizens to raise the funds and approaching business partners for funding.
