BIOGRAPHY
A founding investor in Red County, as of early 2009 Chip Hanlon became its CEO after being approached by the other investors to take it over and put the site where they believed it should be: among the most elite and powerful political websites in existence. The substantial re-design of the site in March was the first step in this process.
Also currently the President of Delta Global Advisors and the founder of greenfaucet.com, Chip Hanlon is regularly featured in the national media for his global economic viewpoints, and he formerly served for 3 years as a contributing writer for Real Money, the subscription service from TheStreet.com.
Previously, Hanlon has served as the C.O.O. and Chief Domestic Strategist at Euro Pacific Capital, as the President of Unfunds, Inc., and as Vice President of Investments and Syndicate Manager with Sutro & Co. He started his career as a research assistant on the international desk at Oppenheimer in 1993 while completing his studies of political science at UCLA.
In addition, Mr. Hanlon is the past-Editor of the Unfundamentals Market Newsletter, a current member of American Mensa, a founding investor in Red County Magazine and was on the budget task force of Bill Simon, 2002 Republican candidate for governor in the state of California. He has carried NASD Series 3, 4, 7, 8, 24, 66, 86 & 87 licenses.

Attention Sushi Eaters: Go to Hamamori!
By Chip Hanlon | 09/10/08
Let's set politics aside for a moment and talk about something much more important: sushi. If you live in O.C., consider yourself a fan of the raw fish and you haven't been to Hamamori yet, you simply need to get your priorities straight. For more details you can read a longer, hilarious article about the place here, but after having taken yet another newbie there last night I just had to post quickly here for local readers because I was... read more »

McCain's Speech: a Big, Fat Airball
By Chip Hanlon | 09/05/08
Is it just me, or could John McCain's speech have been any more worthless last night? I literally could not get through it and ended up tuning out, probably less than half way through based on how long I hear it went on. I was in the building on Wednesday for Sarah Palin's exciting speech, which I wrote about yesterday, but I am so glad I got out of town and didn't stick around for that mess last night. What a letdown...it's a... read more »

Obama Wants to Question Palin's Experience?!
By Chip Hanlon | 08/29/08
So, by now you may have seen the Obama campaign's response to John McCain's choice of running mate: "Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency." That's strange...I didn't realize Obama was a seasoned foreign policy luminary himself! Is this "experience" thing something Barack really want to discuss? Apparently it is. Here's how our friends at the Huffington... read more »

We Refuse To Support a Permanent Minority
By Chip Hanlon | 07/07/08
The following article was co-authored by Chip Hanlon and Rich Wagner. The Grumbling. The head shaking. The anger. Congressional Republican leaders clearly have no idea what we, their fellow GOP members (and financial backers), say to one another when we get together, yet for years one refrain has been constant: our extreme discontent over how the former GOP majority blew it on spending. Budget earmarks, which jumped by 285% between 1994... read more »

AIPAC Speech Highlights a Big Obama Problem
By Chip Hanlon | 06/04/08
In a post last night, I promised to publish a series on Barack Obama over coming days and why he's no shoe-in to become President. In catching the tail-end of Senator Obama's speech at AIPAC's national convention this morning, I decided to touch on a topic I hadn't planned on talking about for a few days: the big challenge I suspect he is going to have with a typically reliable Democrat voting bloc-- Jewish voters.I'm a former donor-member of... read more »

Objectivists on Sub-Prime
By Chip Hanlon | 11/30/07
Since the news that lenders might freeze rates on certain adjustable-rate mortgages is going to be THE story in financial markets today, I thought I'd provide this link to a podcast interview I just did this week with Alex Epstein, analyst with the Ayn Rand Institute regarding the sub-prime lending mess and government's proper role in it. His answer likely won't surprise you: there is no role, he says! What may surprise, however, will be the... read more »

Can the Fed Fight Inflation with Words?
By Chip Hanlon | 10/31/07
By now most market watchers know that the Federal Reserve chose the path of least resistance today: a 25 basis point interest rate cut. Hilariously, with gold at $800/ounce and oil nearing $100 per barrel, many pundits still claim with a straight face that there remains no sign of inflation! Why is this a topic for a local political blog? Becuase if you happen to eat food or put gas in your car, there could be no more local an issue, one... read more »

Chuck DeVore Goes Nuclear!
By Chip Hanlon | 10/09/07
OK, it's not what it sounds like. What I mean is: in a world of rising energy prices, most politicians are busy trying to score cheap political points on energy and few are offering any practical, long-term solutions. Assemblyman Chuck DeVore and his effort to lift California's 31-year old ban on the building of any new nuclear power generating facilities stands as a shining exception. Still think of Chernobyl or Three Mile Island when... read more »

Jimmy Hoffa Would be Proud
By Chip Hanlon | 06/26/07
Democrats have always been effective at putting Orwellian names on their most egregious proposals--innocuous, even altruistic-sounding names that completely mask the true intent of their legislation. The latest example? The Employee Free Choice Act. I could rail on and on about the outrageousness of this bill, but the Lincoln Club's Dan Baren brilliantly stated the case in today's Regsiter. Pardon the link to the Register's... read more »
