SOOOO SICK of the prop 8 thingy!!!

Posted by: Inga Barks | 11/10/2008 10:34 PM

OK. So......8 years ago they believed that the "people had spoken" and Al Gore should be president because the majority said so. Today, when the majority says marriage is between a man and woman...."the people" are bigotted morons. Or are they just stupid in California? Which always votes blue......and has Gavin Newsome as one of it's mayors......?

I hear almost daily from people who's family members or friends have written them off, shunned them, cut them off entirely because of their support for prop 8. It's an amazing time indeed when some homosexuals would demand thier loved ones be in the closet or face shunning. did YOU like it in there? You know, you often compare yourselves (wrongly) to the black civil rights movement. Yet I don't think there's a black civil rights leader who has ever insisted I become a slave. Why do you want me to be in the misery that you lived in? If it was unjust for you, it's unjust for me.......yes? So, as I told an earlier blogger, the challenge is out. If someone can prove to me that God is lying about this issue,  I will turn my back on Him, call Him a liar, and support your marriage.

What are you talking about "being in the closet" about supporting prop 8? You are being ridiculous.

Yes, some people on BOTH sides are intolerant of each other's view point. The difference here is, Inga- is that if you support prop 8 you are FORCING your opinion of what marriage is on someone else.

Here's another example. Say, I believe that DIVORCE is undermining the sanctity of marriage, and the ideal situation for a child to grow up in (which is exactly what the yes on 8 supporters claim about gay marriage). Would I be right to take away your right to a divorce? If you support 8, and all the defense they use, then you should also support abolishing divorce. The point is, however I may feel about divorce I would never take away your right to is just because of my personal beliefs. Our country is about freedom, and not religious tyranny.

Mind you as well, that just because a majority votes it in doesn't make it right. This goes for ANY issue- democratic or republic. If someone only says "majority rules" and then says they are against the majority ruling of prop 8, they are a hypocrite. On the same exact token, Inga- if someone supports prop 8 and also supports the right for a divorce they are also indeed a hypocrite.

One more thing. Read the dictionary and see what a "bigot" is, and you will see that it applies to Prop 8 supporters. "obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions... one who regards or treats members of another group with intolerance" Or also "religious hypocrite".

Also, how dare you bring God into this equation. That is your personal thing, and don't force it on others. No one is asking you to recognize their marriage, cmon now. If Joe an John get married they don't give a damn about your opinion on it. They just want the right to get married. Don't think so highly of yourself.

By the way, I studied the bible for years and I also studied it's history. People have used that bible to justify ANYTHING. Even Hitler claimed that the masses can be controlled, just as long as you understand their religion you can wield them to do anything you want. HE did just that. We have also been using the bible to support slavery, lynching, prostitution, polygamy, the crusades, genocide... the list goes on. Now, I don't hate the bible at all and I don't hate christians. But I will educate anyone who tries to use it for intolerance and claim it's perfection.

Here is what I personally believe about marriage and the government. I think the government should have NOTHING to do with marriage, AT ALL. The government should stay out of religious rituals completely and only recognize civil unions. Then, whomever wants to get married can do so within their own religion. Guess what? No more problems and everyone is happy.

great email! Thank you. Forgive my spelling and grammar. I am sooo tired I figured I'd mutilate english first and apologize later.
1. I am entertained by the fact that you say I am trying to push MY opinion on anyone. By the protests on the street , name calling, and shunning by family and friends who are gay......I think it's obvious that in fact your side is trying to force their views on ME! I knew they were gay but didn't shun them. I knew they were gay and spent time with them, work with them, have lunch with them and love them. but they find out I believe in biblical values and THEY SHUN ME!!!! They want me to shut up about my bleiefs and prove my love for them by turning my back on what I believe. Look......if you don't want to hear my zaney religious beliefs, don't ask me to vote for something that violates them.
2. Divorce...ok....this one defies logic. Marriage is NOT a civil right. Marriage in the legal sense is a privaledge (not everyone gets to marry. Not everyone gets to vote. Not everyone gets to drive). Marriage might be a human right, agreed. But the founders told us that human rigths are natural. And those natural rights are given by God. And gay marriage doesn't fit His definition! Now. God also gives the right to divorce. And He discribes the conditions. Our current culture and laws have expanded those conditions to just about any reason under the sun. As a result, secular goevrnment has further eroded the family. So please, stop with the divorce argument already!!
3. Did I see a reference to Hitler? I'm getting sleepy now. But in short, HItler was the result of liberal ideology, not mine. Why did he kill Jews and homosexuals? Because he was an atheist. If one doesn't believe in God, they become God. They define morality and the rules by which we live. He gets to say who is human and who isn't. I assure you, homosexuals are fighting the wrong people here. On the day that the new version of Hitler comes along and threatens the life of homosexuals, it will be Christians who will lay down their lives to save them.
