A vote on SB 2567 may be held as early as Thursday in the Democrat-controlled State Senate.

And you're suprised by this?
Wonder why the Republican party is the minority party in our state. Harvey Milk is part of our history, he was the first elected major homosexual elected official to be elected to a major office at that time.
The opposition just wants to make sure certain parts of history never existed.
And schools are not required to have Harvey Milk awareness day at the local public schools, but they are encouraged to. You might see the Los Angeles school district doing it, but the Kern school district might not.
And Dean Florez is termed out so he is a lame duck where he could vote for whatever he wants.
Matt, I suppose I am in the "Opposition". The problem I have isn't a fear of history, but a question of relevance! While YOu may think that Harvey Milk is a huge figure in history, my neighbor would say that quilters are! My other neighbor would say that hunters deserve a special day! Am I to assume if you don't think quilters are important to history that you hate them? Perhaps we should discuss what it is that makes someone qualified to be given this honor. Do we use MLK as the standard or Bob Hope, or something in between? Rather than argue your case, however, you use a common ploy of name calling ("opposition") and accusation ("want to make sure parts of history don't exist"). It's childish and condescending intimidation like this that proves your argument has no merits. Make your case! Why does harvey Milk deserve a place in all of our history next to Martin Luther King?
Gosh, Inga, I was concerned when I read your piece about hatemongers attacking you, but now I learn that referring to "the opposition" is NAMECALLING!!!??? I guess the guy is lucky you don't report him for a hate crime. I had no idea that ...let's see what can I say that won't wound your feelings..."grassroots politics from the center right" were so delicate. Heck, quilters are tougher than that! (National Quilters' Day is the third Saturday in March, btw.)
I know we have too many days in history dictated by our legislature, but Inga and Jay, why don't the center right of our party nominate some other quality days in history like Ronald Reagan day. Ronald Regan was actually a good figure in history, I find him more influential than Mr.Milk.
But since the Democrats would basically vote against this, maybe we could put this as an initiative.
