Boxer votes to strip Sen. Joe Lieberman of his chairmanship

By Chuck DeVore | 11/18/08

Boxer was one of 13 Democrats voting to bounce Sen. Joe Lieberman from his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee -- 42 Democrats, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein voted to retain Sen. Lieberman as chairman. As if we needed more evidence that Sen. Boxer is extreme and vindictive. From the Contra Costa Times blog:But even though Obama himself reportedly supported Lieberman, it seems U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer,... read more »

California Election Results Give Hope To Republicans

By Chuck DeVore | 11/05/08

Scratch the surface of Sen. McCain's 24.3 percent loss in California, with President-elect Obama winning by the widest margin in modern California history, and you have the makings of a California comeback in 2010.  To even entertain the possibility of a comeback, however, Republicans have to fully understand where McCain and President Bush failed. Not that my seat was much in doubt, but with preliminary returns from all precincts (late... read more »

The Last Irony: Obama requires a ticket and government ID to attend party

By Chuck DeVore | 11/02/08

Does anyone find it as inconsistent and hypocritical as I do that Obama's big victory party in Grant Park in Chicago - the scene of violent leftwing protests in 1968, no doubt supported by Bill Ayres - will require the 65,000 attendees to present a ticket and government photo ID before admittance?  While on the other hand Obama denounces any measures to present a photo ID before voting to reduce election fraud as discriminatory?  Isn't... read more »

Obama's Illegal Immigrant Aunt Illegally Contributes to Obama Campaign?!

By Chuck DeVore | 10/31/08

Head shaker: Obama's illegal immigrant aunt gives $260 to campaign while living in government housing. The Drudge Report cited an AP story about Barack Obama's aunt who was ordered deported back to Kenya four years ago.  Zeituni Onyango, 56, lives in government housing in Boston. And, according to the campaign donation search engine Fundrace 2008, she gave $260 to her nephew's campaign.  Illegally.  Geez.  I suppose one can... read more »

Obama up 22% in CA = McCain Winning in the Rest of America

By Chuck DeVore | 10/30/08

The venerable Field Poll, a California-based polling firm, gives Obama a 22 percent margin in California among likely voters.  Both campaigns bypassed California, except to raise money, but 22 points, if it holds, would be significant.  But, the election is not determined by popular vote, as President Gore learned in 2000, it is determined by the Electoral College, a state-by-state count of a state's representation in Congress equaling... read more »

Liberal media bias or sloppy editing? A local newspaper once again censors my opinion

By Chuck DeVore | 10/30/08

Cen-sor, n.  A person authorized to examine books, films, or other material and to remove or suppress what is considered morally, politically, or otherwise objectionable. For much of the time since being elected, I have been asked by the Los Angeles Times-owned Daily Pilot (yes, the same Los Angeles Times that refuses to release the Obama-Ayers-Khalidi destroy Israel love fest video) to write short opinion pieces for their "That's Debatable"... read more »

Jerusalem Post: Obama's Iraq Plan is a Vietnam Flashback

By Chuck DeVore | 10/28/08

Today's Jerusalem Post featured a devastating critique of the military and foreign policy of Obama and Biden.  Entitled, "Obama's Iraq plan: A Vietnam flashback" here are some of the highlights of this excellent piece by Abraham Katsman -- You wouldn't know it from following the major news outlets. And you certainly wouldn't know it from listening to the campaign speeches of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. But the United States military and... read more »

GALLUP: Race Tightens... Link to Wall Street?

By Chuck DeVore | 10/28/08

Gallup and GWU/Battleground show a 2 and 3 point race, respectively, plus a strong correlation to Wall Street moves.  This begs the question, will the stock market and Joe the Plumber team up to help Sen. John McCain win this election? Gallup's traditional measure is down to 2 points for Obama. You can easily see how Gallup's biggest margins for Obama correspond with really bad days on Wall Street having occurred just before polling... read more »

Joe the Plumber slimed by Democrats illegally using government computers?

By Chuck DeVore | 10/25/08

If you wondered how big the stakes were in this election and what a potent symbol Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, aka "Joe the Plumber" has become, look no further than the breaking story out of Ohio that not one, not two, but at least three government computer systems were illegally accessed to dig up dirt on the aspiring American everyman.  The Columbus Dispatch, in a story filed Friday night, reports that the Ohio Attorney General's office... read more »

Orange County Legislative Rankings from 3 interest groups

By Chuck DeVore | 10/25/08

Legislative rankings came in from a few groups over the last week.  Since the press doesn't cover public policy as much as it used to, here are some rankings for the Orange County delegation.  There really aren't any surprises. The California Chamber of Commerce is a broad-based business group.  A higher score signals a lawmaker who is more in favor of hard work and private initiative, as opposed to big government and higher... read more »
