PBS NOVA covers "California's Big Energy Gamble"

By Chuck DeVore | 01/21/09

Last night I was featured on one of America's longest running television shows, PBS's NOVA.  NOVA detailed California's landmark 2006 law, AB 32, and its aggressive mandate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 11 years.  The only two elected officials NOVA featured in the show were me and Governor Schwarzenegger. Regardless of your opinion about global warming, the fact is that California embarked on a risky... read more »

The Geithner nomination: The double standard means never having to say you're sorry

By Chuck DeVore | 01/16/09

Let's go on a trip down memory lane to the not-too-distant past.  In 1986, Linda Chavez left her high ranking post in the Reagan Administration to run for the U.S. Senate against Maryland liberal Barbara Mikulski (a political clone of Barbara Boxer, but that's another story).  In a bad year for Republicans, Chavez lost the race.  In 2001, President George W. Bush nominated Chavez to a post in his cabinet as Secretary of... read more »

Panetta at CIA? Sen. Boxer says yea, Sen. Feinstein says not so fast

By Chuck DeVore | 01/06/09

On Monday, January 5, President-elect Obama selected former Cong. Leon Panetta to be the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.  Panetta's chief qualification is his utter lack of intelligence experience - meaning that he has not been involved with any of the intelligence activities in the past 7 years that have kept America safe.  This makes him an acceptable candidate to the anti-war left. Obama's first choice to head... read more »

CA LEGISLATURE: Bill of Rights, NO; Taxes, YES; ChiComs, YES

By Chuck DeVore | 12/16/08

In 1998, the legislature unanimously passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 82 to annually honor the approval of the Bill of Rights.  Per SCR 82, we are to read aloud the Bill of Rights on the first legislative day after December 15.  That would be today.  My request to read the Bill of Rights was denied by the Speakers office. At first I thought that the majority Democrats' denial of SCR 82's requirement to read the Bill of Rights... read more »

The long, slow death of AB 32 and the California economy

By Chuck DeVore | 12/10/08

Today's Sacramento Bee features a column by Dan Walters entitled, "Greenhouse gas plan has big shortcomings."  He starts his column with the observation that, "Arnold Schwarzenegger is a proponent of the all-gain-and-no-pain school of public policy, especially when he peddles the notion that California can radically reduce its greenhouse gases while reaping immense economic benefits."  The basis of Walters' opinion comes from a... read more »

First, the bailout, then, government central planning, then, a depression?

By Chuck DeVore | 12/08/08

I have a bad feeling about this...   I just heard Illinois governor Rod R. Blagojevich say he was banning Bank of America from any state business.  What was the BofA's crime?  They didn't use a portion of their $25 billion in federal bailout money to bail out a failing factory that just closed.  Hasn't this sort of government central planning been tried before and proven a failure?  If this sort of thing is... read more »

Our Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, you stink video ranked #7 in the world!

By Chuck DeVore | 12/04/08

Less than 24-hours after Sen. Harry Reid made the news saying, "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol," the DeVore for California campaign released its first web-ad criticizing Barbara Boxer for her support of the $621 million Congressional monument to itself.  Within a day, our one-minute YouTube video ranked as Google's 7th most blogged about video in the... read more »

Something smells in Washington, D.C. -- Harry Reid says it's you!

By Chuck DeVore | 12/03/08

I've opposed all the mega-billion dollar bailouts - they reward failure and bad decisions and leave us and our children to pay the trillion dollars in new debt.  And, if you think this out of control spending is bad now with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barbara Boxer in Congress and President Bush in the White House, just wait until Obama is President and even more liberal Democrats run Congress.     Now we hear about the... read more »
