North County - VISTA Unified School Board Trustee Jim Gibson placed an item on Thursday's agenda to have a day to honor Vista High School graduate Carrie Pregean, Miss California, who at this year's Miss USA pageant got the short straw, politically charged question about same-sex marriage.

The public comment and debate went late into the night as hundreds showed up on both sides of the issue.Check out today's North County Times article:  HERE.

Some members of the public felt that Miss Prejean stood up for what she believed in and never meant to offend anyone.  They felt she should not be punished for what she believes.   Others argued that bigotry should not be supported by the school district by creating a special day.

Gibson's motion failed for lack of support by his colleagues.  The newspaper called this a "hot topic issue".  What do you think?

This honor had nothing to do

This honor had nothing to do with Miss California's statements but was a power play by Jim Gibson. Sadly Ms. Prejean is an inarticulate speaker and doesn't greatly reflect a superior education in the VUSD. Having said that, she is entitled to her opinon once she has completed her contract with the beauty pagent. Let's hope she gets some speech lessons so she can articulate her views in a more coherent fashion.

Without making personal

Without making personal attacks, as the previous post, I am not sure having a day as suggested is the right thing.  But I see nothing wrong with using Miss Prejean as an example of how a strong young woman can give an honest answer to a question posed to her and still hold her head up.  It is shameful how the left has attacked her.  What about tolerance?

Why not make it personal?

Ms. Prejean set herself up as a spokesperson against same-sex marriage, which is a very personal issue for those who want to marry the person they love. So, in response to her not getting a Carrie Prejean day, I would just like to say, no offense Carrie.

And, as a nice Christian girl, I guess Jesus likes those topless pics of her.

She did not set herself up as

She did not set herself up as spokesperson - the Judge Hilton set her up.  Miss Prejean did not go into the pageant thinking this could launch her as a advocate of traditional marriage.  You are going to have to come up with a better argument than that.   The issue is should she have a day - I think not, but at least stick to the facts.

Nice Christian Girl

Annie:  Christians aren't perfect, they are forgiven.  You, apparently, are perfect.
