Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the back and forth of politics that we forget to recognize what a blessing it is to live in this country.  Personally, I am always amazed by the generosity of the people of my local area - Calvert County.

Tomorrow is our Calvert County Relay for Life, where more than a thousand people from a county of 88,000 total will walk in a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.  This fundraiser will generate more than $300,000 out of this small county alone.  If you haven't supported the walk and would like to - here is where you can go -

In August, the County comes together again for Cancer Gala fundraising event in Chespeake Beach, which last year raised $325,000. 

One small county raising more than $600,000 in just two events to fight cancer.  Coming together because this fight is not a Democrat or Republican one, but instead against a universal enemy.  Driven by a willingness to give of themselves to make a difference against this common enemy, all of Calvert County rallies around this cause.  The people of Calvert County's willingness to give of themselves so thoroughly is just one of many reasons why I am proud to live here.
