SCOTUS Sides with Brunner -- Registration Verification Off Again

Posted by: Matt Hurley | 10/21/2008 10:02 AM

Demonstrating why judicial appointments are important, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has sided with Ohio Secretary of State Jenny Brunner in that flooding the system with bogus voter registrations is a-okay.

Of course, that this sort of thing makes detecting real voter fraud that much harder is apparently lost on the unelected Men in Black.

Bob Bennett, outgoing Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party has this to say about the pathetic decision:

"This decision was made on a technicality, not on the merits of the case.  The justices did not disagree with our argument that Jennifer Brunner has failed to comply with federal election law.  They merely said we don't have a right to bring a private challenge against her under this particular provision.

Secretary Brunner has fought every effort to validate hundreds of thousands of questionable registrations.  Two courts and numerous judges have accused her of failing provide an adequate system of verifying that information.  The Supreme Court's ruling has not changed that, and we continue to believe Secretary Brunner is neglecting her basic duty under the law to prevent fraud from corrupting Ohio's election system.

We are again calling on the Secretary of State to comply with federal law by providing clear instructions to election administrators on how to handle questionable voter registration forms.

As far as I'm concerned, Secretary Brunner is actively working to conceal fraudulent activity in this election.  As many as 200,000 registrations submitted this year have been flagged for discrepancies.  At least one major Democrat activist group has publicly admitted to engaging in election fraud.  People are being bribed with cigarettes, money and alcohol to register and in some cases vote.  College students are manipulating residency requirements to cast illegal ballots.  Yet Jennifer Brunner is content to let it all go unchecked.  Ohioans are right to be outraged and disgusted by her partisanship.  The Democrats have proven once again they'd rather steal elections than win them fairly."

Let's not forget that Obama has said that he isn't worried about Ohio because Democrats are in charge of the machines.  The Chicago Way is coming to Ohio and Jenny Brunner is going to make sure that it goes down ACORN's way.

UPDATE: McCain-Palin campaign manager Rick Davis had this to say on the subject:

"Today's decision by the United States Supreme Court does not address violations of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) by Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. Rather, the Court ruled that Congress had likely not authorized private individuals or political parties to bring suit under the section of HAVA requiring voter registration verification through data-matching. It remains our belief that American citizens should be guaranteed that their legitimate votes are not wiped away by illegally cast ballots. What is no longer in question is the partisan nature of Jennifer Brunner's efforts to minimize the level of fairness and transparency in this election."

The Republicans better be watching things closely in this one. The fraud factor is alive and well in lots of states.
