After the vote on the "flawed but necessary" economic rescue bill, Republican Leader, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner -- hit the road to campaign for GOP candidates in the Lone Star State of Texas.

At an event for Rep. Mike McCaul (TX-10), Boehner discussed the Democrats' role in the blocking of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform, which brought about our the financial crisis.  Quoth Boehner:

"Barack Obama and his allies in Congress need to fess up to their role in blocking reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  While Democrats were cozying up to Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson, the excesses of these government-backed entities were quietly sowing the seeds of our financial crisis."

Terry Jones, writing for Investor's Business Daily, says:

"Fannie and Freddie were created by Democrats, regulated by Democrats, largely run by Democrats and protected by Democrats. That's why taxpayers are now being asked for $700 billion."

The NRCC released a video asking "What Just Happened?" And Saturday Night Live even got into the game, lampooning Democrats' for blocking Republican efforts to avert this crisis.

Monday morning, Boehner went to San Antonio for a Congressional Trust 2008 fundraiser with Rep. Lamar Smith (TX-21).  As Roll Call reported in June, Congressional Trust is a "joint fundraising committee" that allows Boehner, "NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.) and the RNC to collaborate on providing funds for GOP House candidates, both incumbents and challengers."

That night, Boehner headlined an event for Republican challenger Lyle Larson in Texas' 23rd Congressional District.  Larson strongly opposes taxpayer-funded earmarks and favors energy freedom. Check out this ad about wasteful Washington spending.  He has also laid out an "all of the above" energy strategy that puts to shame Rep. Ciro Rodriguez's record of opposing efforts to achieve energy independence and lower gas prices. In fact, Rodriguez voted against increasing environmentally safe exploration for more oil and gas, expanding refining capacity, and promoting the use of clean coal.  Rodriguez has been a reliable vote for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), backing her liberal agenda of increased wasteful spending and no new American energy.
