Cincinnati Public Schools Pays $36k to Keep From Fighting with Self

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), like most districts in the country, try to raise taxes with additional levies at every opportunity. There is very little regard for the taxpayer and concerns are rarely, if ever, addressed. So when I see that CPS spent $36,000.00 on a consultant to help fend off bickering and name-calling, I figure that this is a growing problem with students that needs to be addressed. What I don't expect is to discover that this money is being spent to keep grown adults from acting like spoiled little children with no manners.

Twittering the Hiatus

During the hiatus, I've been spending a LOT of time with Twitter trying to figure out how best to use this "new" tool to best advantage. While I really am finding the promotional application of Twitter for drawing traffic to WMD and Red County to be useful, I've also started engaging a few of the "conservative" and "Republican" "communities" on Twitter.

What have I learned?

Ohio Senate Follow-Up

Yesterday, we covered a shocking failure on the part of Ohio Senate to pass a piece of legislation that sailed through the Ohio House which would have protected senior citizens living in assisted care facilities.

At the conclusion of the piece, I indicated that I had contacted some of the key players via email and would report back on my findings...  I want to thank the office of State Senator Tim Grendell for responding to my inquiry.

Ohio's Culture of Corruption and Carousing Update

Ohio's former Attorney General, Marc "The Man" Dann, is back in the news. Turns out, Dann spent tons of campaign cash on himself and then lied about it on his financial disclosures. I'm pretty sure that's a no-no...even for a Democrat. As Ohio's top cop, Dann was a bust.

Voinovich on Energy

Yesterday, Ohio's senior senator, George Voinovich took some time to talk about OPEC's recent decision to cut their production rates and the solution he proposes is to increase American sources of oil.

After that, we'll chat about an Ohio angle that Team Voinovich doesn't like to talk about very much. Click READ MORE...

Reviewing Campaign Finance Strategy in Butler County

Wow. Ohio Democrats either had money to burn or thought they had a chance against Roger Reynolds. Either way, they wasted some cash on a seat they had very little chance of winning. Over at the Western Star, our favorite intrepid reporter broke down the numbers so I don't have to! (How thoughtful of him!)

Sheriff Ignores Eviction Notices

Butler County is blessed with our own version of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  His name is Richard Jones and he is larger than life.  He's made illegal immigration his key issue and he made headlines when he criticized John McCain for his position on amnesty.

But has he gone too far this time?  He's ordered his deputies to ignore court ordered evictions because it is winter time and that would be a "heartless" thing to do.  That is kind of a bizarre position for a lawman to take...

"Regional Diversity" a Factor in RNC Chair Race

In the battleground state of Ohio, I have something of a reputation as being the guy who tries to keep our guys honest.  The "insiders" don't quite frame it that way, of course, but I have always thought of myself as something of a sentinel when it comes to my focus on Republicans.

So when I see Republicans talking about regional diversity being a factor in the race for RNC Chair, I start asking questions.

Social Issues Are Not the Answer

Here in the Great State of Ohio, our deputy chairman (soon to be chairman) of the state party made an "inartful" statement that was taken slightly out of context by the media and then blown out of proportion by the local social conservative groups.

The problem is that Kevin DeWine is right and these so-called grassroots groups are misreading the political climate.
