As previously predicted, Undersheriff Bill Gore was just appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to the vacant position created by Bill Kolender's mid-term resignation.  It was expected the Supervisors would conduct interviews today, with a vote next week.  However, the board proceeded with the decision to fill the spot just minutes ago.

The vote total by ballot, prior to the decision being memorialized by adopted motion, was as follows:

Bill Gore - 4

Jim Duffy - 2

Jay La Suer - 1

If it doesn't seem to add up, that's because each Supe was allowed more than one vote if needed to narrow the field.  Supervisor Dianne Jacob voted for all three of those listed, prior to the final motion being adopted.

Gore will now be able to run as the appointed incumbent in next year's election.  Both Duffy and La Suer have announced campaigns, as have David Bejarano and Bruce Ruff.  The latter two did not file the paperwork necessary to be considered to fill the vacancy by appointment.

With Gore's appointment, it remains to be seen if all of the previously announced candidates stay in the running next year.

If you can spell barn burner, I can.

Unbelievable!

The citizens of Chula Vista passed a ballot measure in November 2006 that forbid appointees to vacant seats from using the title of their public office on the following Election Day. San Diego County residents should demand the same open government reform - the power of incumbency is overwhelming, and this selection process has been marred by favoritism for a political insider. It's time for a change. David Bejarano for San Diego Sheriff!

Welcome to Chicago!

It appeared the decision was made long before any of the candidates walked through the door.  Back room "Barbara Streisand" at it's finest, in America's Finest City, Enron by the bay.  The NEW face of the Republican Party speaks loud & clear.  Conservatism works every time and I for one will stick with my conservative beliefs.  Remember, the three had already endorsed Gore; when the subject of Gore’s intimate involvement at the Ruby Ridge incident came up, the Board ignored it!  How can the incident at Ruby Ridge be ignored when considering the appointment of a sheriff? On two occasions during the interview, I advised the Board I did not support their policy of appointing a Sheriff.  It was like taking the vote away from the people and electing a sheriff by committee.  A caretaker sheriff should have been appointed with the proviso that the caretaker not run in 2010.

At least they impeached the governor in Illinois for his backroom deals.  Common sense, character and integrity were not in attendance yesterday.

New Plan

We now need a candidate-neutral organization to run an Anybody-But-Gore campaign, starting now, wherein we fully flesh out Gore's liabilities, and hammer them home via the internet and talk radio.

This Bully and Unindicted Murder Suspect needs to be the talk of the town by citizens who demand representative, clean government.

Not over by a long shot

Gore has more negatives than any neophyte politician I have ever seen.

He can be taken out by a vigorous ANYBODY-BUT-GORE campaign, and the political blow-back on the Supervisors who did their masters' bidding, would be sweet indeed.

So let it be written, so let it be done....

Zero Confidence

I just do not see how anyone would take that position by appointment unless they were intending to be a care taker.  Any other reason just looks bad. There is no way an appointed Sheriff can implement policy affectively or do anything, but just stay the course.  I know there is an argument that he will have an advantage in the election being the incumbent, but I believe that by taking the appointment he has hurt his campaign. As important as the position of Sheriff of San Diego County is, who could possibly be comfortable with a Sheriff who is appointed?

The job of the other candidates just got easier. They just have to that message out there.

the "NEW" sheriff

Every where I hear "New Sheriff" I cringe.

The " Monkey see monkey do .." headlines by the press - Gore as the "NEW SHERIFF" is irresponsible and lazy journalism. He is not! He is the "INTERIM SHERIFF!" not the new one. The "New Sheriff" will be select by ballot by the voters in June of 2010!

Just thought I'd bring a few up to speed..
