Breaking Late Tuesday: DeMint Endorses Chuck DeVore

In what can only be described as a tremendous boost for Chuck DeVore and his bid for the GOP Senate nomination in California, tonight he picked up the endorsement of the Senate's leading conservative, Senator Jim DeMint.

DeMint has been the most prominent D.C. insider who has consistently been on what conservatives would consider the side of the angels, having already backed Marco Rubio in Florida and tonight's headliner, Doug Hoffman in NY-23.

In what was sure to be an uphill fight for DeVore in terms of fundraising against the well-heeled Carly Fiorina, tonight's endorsement puts DeMint's following and resources--including, presumably, his Senate Conservatives Fund-- at DeVore's service.

Perhaps more interesting could be the impact a move like tonight's has for DeMint himself; if he can help a candidate like DeVore, who's widely considered a longshot, to win the nomination, it will greatly enhance DeMint's national status, perhaps even helping set the stage for what his supporters hope will be his own run at the White House in 2012.

With upwards of 4000 people on tonight's nearly 2-hour call with DeMint at any one time, and a number approaching 20,000 who reportedly connected at least for a short while, there's obviously a national appetite to hear more from DeMint.

At the very least, the timing of this move is clearly meant to ensure that this time, DeMint will be acting first with his endorsement. Recall that in Florida, his backing of Rubio came after Charlie Crist's announcement that he'd be running, and his simultaneous backing by the NRSC.

This time, DeMint gets the jump on the NRSC and its calculating leader, John Cornyn, who will absolutely be backing Carly Fiorina when she officially announces later this week. I can personally assure this because the arrogant Cornyn failed to even mention DeVore's name when addressing a small gathering of Orange County's key GOP donors in August--at a private club in DeVore's own district!

With DeMint backing DeVore, it will be interesting to see whether the NRSC backing will help Carly more than it hurts her, as recent polls in Florida show that something is hanging like a lead weight on Crist's poll numbers.

The Hoffman/Rubio conservative Republicans who have been emboldened by recent events can now be counted on to turn their attention and resources in DeVore's direction. This development alone could make California's Senate primary very interesting.

It's a huge pickup for Chuck DeVore, and a hugely interesting move by DeMint, to say the least.

Thank You

Many thanks to Senator DeMint for endorsing early on, and not like Scozzafava did to us.  Right now we need every advantage we can get and without the fanfare

We have no time to waste.

DeMint (conservative) vs. Steel (RINO)

Well if the elections in NJ, VA, and perhaps, CA-23 and CA-10 turn RED, perhaps the establishment will as well....red from embarrassment that they have abandoned the principles off the Grand Old Party and have stretched the tent too wide for the sake of "moderation."

Devore Vote Percent

Did anyone hear what percent of the vote Devore got vs Fiorina on the call vote?

Senate Tom Coburn endorsed Fiorina another RINO for California

This is unbelieveable to me that another endorsed candidate of the Senate Conservatives Fund is trying to undermine another endorsed candidate, Chuck DeVore.  Senator Tom Coburn has endorsed Carly Fiorina.  It seens the good old boys in D.C. still have not learned their lesson.  This is tantamount to Newt Gingrich's endorsement of Dede Scozzafava.  This is outrageous and shameful.  I've called Coburn's office and told them I WILL NOT FINANCIAL SUPPORT COBURN or help his campaign in any way.  We are hurting in California one of the only representatives here that has stood for the citizen and taxpayer is Chuck DeVore.  SHAMEFUL, ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL!

Florida Senator

Senator DeMint I enjoyed your comments at the 912 tea party in DC. I was on your telecon last night but didn't get connected until late. I thought I heard you mention Marco Rubio who is running for the US Senate in Fl? at the tail in of the telecon. He is very conservative and have verified his issues on his web site.

DeMint

Firstly, Sen. DeMint's endorsement will likely have little effect on CA voters. Secondly, the GOP victories in VA & NJ prove we have the momentum on our side if we nominate the correct candidates who emphasize the right themes for our state and nation and tap into the concerns of conservatives and independents over government overreach, cost, & taxes. I'm curious as to how Chuck DeVore would fare against the unpopular Boxer. Likely not much differently than other 'angry white guys' who ran state-wide in CA with strong socially-conservative credentials. Could it mean we're in for another ugly, interminable, Boxer term in the Senate? On a different topic, Hoffman in NY was the wrong guy for the 23rd District (where I grew up). He lacked any charisma and over-emphasized divisive social issues which drove away more libertarian Reps & many independents. There is a strong libertarian streak in the character of Upstate NY voters. Hoffman should have learned from Sarah Palin's successful Governor's race and from what she spelled out in her endorsement of him. If he focused on taxes, spending, government control of health care, and the like the outcome may have been different.

Endorsements rule!

Everyone knows that without an endorsement from a senator from the south who has been to CA once in the last 2 years is a big deal.  Heck he wont even come here to sell his book.

I wonder, since he was once a member, if the AFLCIO will endorse Devore as well.

Jim DeMint - Perfectly in line with Californians

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Good luck with THAT one.  The only guy in the Senate that makes DeMint look sane is James Inhofe.

Riding High????

DeVore, riding high from the endorsement of conservative Senate icon Jim DeMint and his Senate Conservatives Fund yesterday??????? didn't even crack double-digits in favorability. He was viewed positively by only 8 percent and respondents had an unfavorable view of him nearly twice that. More than half of the respondents, however, basically replied, "Chuck Devore? Who? Chuck DeVore Who?

Well, Over 200 people in the liberal area of Sonoma County gave a rousing ovation the the Chuck DeVore who? that some of you are panning on this site.  He has momentum and the people of California are sick and tired of RINOs and Boxer.  We have people actually apologizing to us for voting for Obama.  There is a movement going on and it won't be stopped.
