Blind hatred—Glenn Beck pummeled for swine flu debate announcement
By Eric Ingemunson | 10/08/09 | 04:06 PM EDT | 0 Comments
As soon as Glenn Beck announced that today’s show is going to focus on the pros and cons of getting the swine flu vaccination, some of his opponents began questioning if Glenn Beck is resorting to fearmongering over the issue. The swine flu sounds like a legitimate topic of debate to me, something I want to know more about. But already he is being called a whacko, a racist, red-baiter, and is being compared to McCarthy by some. Let’s read the statement that’s got everyone riled up:
On Thursday I want you to join me for a special show—an hour-long special—on the swine flu. I am not going to give you my opinion on the swine flu. I don’t think anybody but your doctor should give you their opinion on the swine flu. This is for every American to ask themselves, “Am I going to give this injection to my children?”
We’re going to have a half hour of those who are going to say absolutely not—medical doctors. And then the second half is, “Are you crazy? You must!”
You decide.
That will be a special hour Thursday. Honest questions I don’t think are going to be asked or answered anyplace else.
Oh my God! He wants you and your doctor to decide if you should get a flu shot! That’s INSANE! And he is going to dedicate a half-hour of his show to each side of the debate?! How could he! What a racist! He’s not even going to tell us if he thinks we should get a shot or not, can you believe the fearmongering!
To be fair, Glenn Beck has said that he’s afraid that the administration will use any crisis to advance their agenda (because that’s what they’ve told us).
But at least wait until you’ve seen the show before you start with the ad hominems. Let’s be civil.
