Analyzing Obama’s First Year
By Nadia Naffe | 01/03/10 | 06:56 AM EDT | 3 Comments
Now that 2010 is officially here, its interesting to look back at the year of hope and change Barrack Obama’s presidency was supposed to usher in.
Call 2009 the year of the bailout. All the corporate giants seemed to have gotten one. AIGs bailout was so generous it provided multi-million dollar “retention bonuses” to the same group of employees that caused the company‘s collapse. The loophole allowing the bonuses to be paid was written into the bill courtesy of Sen. Chris Dodd.
General Motors received a bailout; only to wind up in bankruptcy court months later. Miraculously, the Unions wound up owning nearly half the company. Campaign promise = fulfilled.
Then there were an endless succession of bailouts for the financial sector - and they haven‘t stopped yet. Wasn’t this guy supposed to clean up Wall Street? The President seems hell bent on bailing out big business ever chance he gets. Creating and saving jobs seems to be a distant priority. As if people aren’t suffering enough right now.
Now, the Obama-Pelosi-Reid trio has embarked on the next round of bailouts. This time it’s health insurance companies. Remember the State of the Union, “I just want to hold the health insurance companies accountable” speech? If awarding health insurers 44 million new customers and sticking taxpayers with a new monthly bill is holding the insurance companies accountable, then Joe Wilson was right. “You Lie!!!”
The job killing cap-and-trade bill, a measure which would have never passed in the House had it not been for the help of a few GOPers know as the “infamous six”. All of whom should be primaried. The measure later stalled in the Senate and hasn’t reared its ugly head in months.
Could anything drive home Obama’s lop-sided homeland security policies more so than a terrorist attack? The President received and intelligence briefing advising him that there may be a terrorist attack aboard an airline a weeks prior to the attack. Why would you beef up security after an attack when you were advised about it weeks before? According to homeland security chief Janet Napolitano, “The system worked.” I’d hate to see the system not working.
Obama ran on a promise to restore America’s standing in the world, yet instead of praising America’s acceptionalism, he went on a worldwide apology tour. The President gave the Europeans every emotional goody they could ask for and they gave him nothing in return.
The G-20 was unsuccessful. The goal was to get the Europeans to endorse his stimulus package and they didn’t. Nato was not a success. The goal was to get support for the combat mission in Afghanistan. They basically said we give you our support, but were not going to provide any troops or any combat capability.
He met with Medvedev the Russian President and they talked about mutual cooperation and in the U.N. Security Council in response to the N. Korean missile launch the Russians said no. The Chinese said no. I’m sure the Saudi’s were glad he bowed, but they’re not going to change their behavior either.
Remember the campaign rhetoric about creating transparency and putting bills online several days before Congress voted? Remember, all the talk about bipartisanship, open-debate and cleaning up the culture of corruption in Washington? Well, all that went out the window the first day the Obama-Pelosi-Reid trio stepped foot on Capital Hill. And while the Republicans stood back and allowed the Democrats to coin them as the party of “no” they were really the party of “no access”. Republican’s weren’t even allowed in the room.
Speaking of reforms, can anyone name one bill Obama has successfully pushed through congress, without conceding many of the key provisions of the legislation? Nada, nothing. Obama gave gay rights activist a nice speech, but never made good on any of his campaign promises to them either.

No kidding you are correct on every level. Last year was a joke, I hope we can turn it around.
Nadia, when Tony Buntyn sent out a press release about his campaign, and I scanned the Cc's, I saw you were one news media source that I had overlooked when I did my own news coverage and was listing outside news sources -if, indeed, you plan to do news coverage of Dist. 11 and/or 12 US House races, I should list you in my updated news and editorial of said races.
So, when looking to see if indeed you had done said coverage, I found this story of yours, and I am glad you are standing tall and opposing the (failed) bailouts.
You are also right to oppose BH Obama when he "gave the Europeans every emotional goody they could ask for and they gave him nothing in return"; however, on one point I must respectfully dissent:
You say that "instead of praising America’s acceptionalism, [Obama] went on a worldwide apology tour," and imply that is bad. Well, is it?
America is full of degenerate liberals -so far as the eye can see -for example FORTY-ONE (41) other countries have longer life-span, and can you say 'lack of personal responsibility,' hello? (I am not even going to waste time elucidating on America's divorce rate -or the U.S.A.'s incarceration rate -but suffice it to say, the former is above average -some say the HIGHEST in the world --and the latter -incarceration rate -is definitely the HIGHEST in the world -both in total numbers and, more importantly, in percentage of total population.) Also, while we give Congress like a 6% (or is it 11%?) approval rating, we keep voting them back in -as we are entranced as if by a snake charmer -by our own congressman. Adam Putnam who voted for the recent bailout right before he was re-elected last term is a perfect example: With like 90% or more opposed to the bailout, we voted for the PRO-bailout candidate who turned liberal on us (and WARNED us he would vote for it! LOL) -instead of the conservative Democrat who voiced opposition to that failed bailout disaster. ** WE are a sinful nation who has turned our back on God. -- Now, perhaps Mr. Obama does not see the same mistakes that we, conservatives, do --and, perhaps he is apologizing for all the wrong things (him being rather liberal), but apologize we should -for failing as badly as we have.
Also, while I think the present Healthcare overhaul is 'overall' probably a disaster for how much it would cost us long-term, at least Mr. Obama is all for cutting Medicare and Medicaid (to pay for all this). WE AS CONSERVATIVES SUPPORT getting 'Big Gov't' out of these areas where they HAVE NO BUSINESS, and, at least, in that small areas, Obama is right -and we should give him credit where credit is due.
As a Christian, I believe we must love our enemies -and be polite to them; that is how we win their respect -and accomplish both temporal success and eternal dividend in the next life. I hope my meager news coverage is as comprehensive and complete as that of you and your colleagues.
My conscience made me feel guilty for not citing my sources in my claims above, so I will do so:
In my post here, I make also reference to divorce and incarceration rates:
# 1 United States: 4.95 per 1,000 people
# 2 Puerto Rico: 4.47 per 1,000 people
# 3 Russia: 3.36 per 1,000 people
# 4 United Kingdom: 3.08 per 1,000 people
# 5 Denmark: 2.81 per 1,000 people
Lastly, on my personal blogs, www.GordonWAYNEWatts.com and www.GORDONWatts.com, I do news coverage of those US House races mentioned in my post -and wonder if I should include your blog as an outside resource for this House Race.
