America's Newspaper, New York Times, Asks for Pay Concessions

The economic downturn combined with the continuing decline in newspaper print advertising is affecting even the "nation's newspaper." The New York Times is asking for 5% pay concessions from its employees.
The planned 5 percent pay cut for nine months, coupled with an additional 10 days of leave, would apply to most employees at the largest units, including The Times and the corporate offices, and to most nonunion employees at The Boston Globe.

|I agree that metro newspapers are dead. They nailed their own coffins closed by following a liberal agenda that their audience (readers) didn't agree with, and as soon as that audience found a new information source, they began abandoning the traditional metropolitan newspaper. There are many local newspapers that reflect their community's values which are thriving.

|They should cut their losses and shut down the presses. Newspapers are like 8-track tapes....history!
