American Arrogance
By Steve Labins | 04/06/09 | 12:33 PM EDT | 5 Comments
I'm tired of hearing one-sided, limited perspectives, especially when a viewpoint unjustly paints the country I love as an overbearing, international ogre.
James Lewis (American Thinker 4/06/09, “Those Arrogant Americans”) reminds us of only a few heroic episodes and interventions from our history, and he does not really touch on the infinite dollars and manpower devoted to humanitarian aid. Whenever there is an international disaster, it seems the United States is ready to lend a helping hand, where it is usually immediately received by the victimized country, unless Myanmar or the People’s Republic is a potential recipient.
I understand the current administration’s desire to promote world goodwill. That desire is as old as America. I do not understand, however, an unbalanced, self-deprecation on the international stage. Our enemies will respect us less and grow more motivated, and our allies will become uncertain concerning our resolve and dependability.
Acting “cowboy” may not have been appealing to many as a foreign-relations approach—perhaps arrogant; but “kow-towing” as a means of appeasing will surely prove to be ignorant.

|If you guys could do better you should run for office. You make the change. I hear a lot of criticism of our elected officals, but rarely do they ever do anything.

|With my limited education and quite substantial experience in this country and others I believe I CAN do a better job. Obama has really started encouraging the American haters out there with his apologies. His resume is very unimpressive, with all of the hatred spewed at Palin, at least she HAS experience in running a government. But back to doing better, Obama is naive in his approach to the world. He is just a carbon copy of Jimmy Carter, and if you know anything about Jimmy Carter, you know the world considered him a joke. When the hostages were taken by Iran in the 70s he could do nothing to get them released. When Reagan became president the hostages were immediately released. I remember the day, Reagan had just been sworn in and I had just completed basic training at lackland air force base in San Antonio. I remember hearing on the radio that the hostages had been released. The question is why didn't they let the hostages go while Carter was prez, but when Reagan became prez they released them? It's because they knew Reagan wasn't going to screw around, no negotiating, no pleads of please let our people go. They knew he would ramp up the military, send US over there and allow us to put a hurtin on Khomeini and his band of students who took the embassy staff hostage. Mind you, Iran let the hostages go just MINUTES after Reagan took office. Some want you to believe that long negotiations and sanctions ended the hostage crisis, but that's bull. America's election of a tough minded and no compromise leader ended the hostage situation. OBAMA LACKS THAT. He wants to blame everything on America and then apologize for our history. How disgusting! I would do better than he by first off telling little thugs like the Somolian pirates "This is your only warning, attack any American sea vessel, hurt ANY American on the high seas even by accident and I will order the U.S. Navy to track you down and to dispose of you. No negotations, no political discussions, no restraint. Then I would tell all those U.S. companies and states standing with their hands out, tough you got yourself into your predicament, you get yourself out! Then I'd drop the tax rate for businesses to match that of Irelands, allowing companies to keep more money which would stimulate the economy by creating new jobs, I'd reduce the budget for public education since more and more spending has only proven to produce more and more cry baby citizens. I'd increase military spending and research and development. I'd push for getting us off of foreign oil by pushing for more oil production and drilling IN OUR COUNTRY and in international waters. In the mean time I'd push for greater research into alternative energy with the goal of attaining total autonomy from foreign energy by 2020. I'd push for any student receiving government loans to have a commitment of not less than 4 years in the military branch of their own choosing. I'd increase taxes and tariffs on all foreign goods and merchandise brought into the U.S. in order to give American products a fair chance. I'd ignor the bullshit separation of church and state myth perpetuated by the athiests and say a prayer before every address to the nation and before congress. I'd allow doctors to follow their own conscience and not force them into performing abortions, I'd de-fund planned parent hood, since it seems capable of having profitable years. If boys and girls are gonna fornicate, they can deal with consequences. I'd require the families of boys age 13 and over to pay child support to the girls they impregnate, after verifying fatherhood through DNA testing. I'd focus on decent minorities who have achieved the American dream and not low lifes like Ludicrous, Noz, Eminem. Advertising funds would only be used to focus on great American minorities like George Washington Carver and Walter E. Williams. I would expose colleges and universities that have such idiotic courses like "Queer Musicology" UCLA, or Mail Order Brides at Johns Hopkins. I'd create a commission to investigate political indoctrination by leftist professors, and recommend that a law be passed that prevents a professor from speaking on anything but the subject he or she is teaching while in class. Professors and teachers and all levels of education will only be able to teach or speak on subjects they're teaching. All types of discrimination would be band to include offices of diversity, since as a hispanic my experience of them tends to be that they are more of a tit for tat goal rather than a pursuit of knowledge and education.
