AD 72 Special Election Watch: Orange's Cavecche Out, Fullerton's Quirk In
By Chris Emami | 09/23/09 | 07:24 PM EDT | 2 Comments
The Orange County Register is reporting that Republican Orange Mayor Carolyn Cavecche will not be running in the election to replace Mike Duvall. They are also reporting that Democrat Fullerton Councilwoman Sharon Quirk will challenge perennial candidate John MacMurray for the right to be the sacrifical lamb in the January 12 runoff for this seat.
Matt Cunningham had reported here on Red County about the possible Cavecche candidacy.
With Cavecche declining to run, Linda Ackerman is now the only Republican woman running, as Chris Norby is the only other Republican officially in the race, and the other potential Republican candidates are all men: former Placentia Councilman Scott Brady, Placentia Councilman Scott Nelson, Placentia Councilman Jeremy Yamaguchi, Anaheim Councilman Harry Sidhu, and activist Richard Rios.
In light of the circumstances of the Mike Duvall scandal, many people in both Orange County and Sacramento are speculating what effect Ackerman's gender may have in boosting her candidacy.

If the Norby poll is accurate, I dont see Ackerman beating him. While she might benefit from her gender, her close association with Duvall will be a major problem in light of the numbers posted by Allan Bartlett.
Ackerman will deservedly get her butt spanked in this race. Sadly, most of it will be due to the failed policies and backroom dealings of her husband, Dick, who gave away the show to the Dems in Sac. as well as brought us a liberal, carpetbagger, Lynn Daucher, to run in the 34th while pushing proven conservative and friend of the GOP Platform, Van Tran, out. However, at the same time I remember Linda making phone calls on behalf her husband and carrying water for him on things. She's no different; we will only go backwards if we let Ackerman take over where her husband left off.
