Actually, it's More than a Debate, Mr. President
By Chip Hanlon | 06/23/09 | 12:56 PM EDT | 2 Comments
In his press conference today, the President led off with comments about Iran, including the powerhouse, "The Iranian people are trying to have a debate about their future..."
Is that what it is? Really? Strange... it looks more like a revolution.
The protestors might satisfy themselves with a debate, but that is something the ruling coalition is clearly uncomfortable with and is so obviously trying to squelch.
Mr. Obama also referenced the courage being shown by protestors in the streets of Tehran, highlighted by the death of the young woman known as Neda. If only he would show a little courage himself; unfortunately, there was no mention by the President of the election results having been illegitimate, just that we're all "bearing witness" as these events unfold. How bold.
Truth is, though, no one should have expected a collectivist like Obama to stand up strongly for individual human liberties, a fact that should outrage women's rights and homosexual activists given the pass he's taking on this opportunity to stand up for these particularly oppressed Iranian groups.
...and then he went right into the topic of the energy bill pending in the House this week, as though he was ticking off items on the agenda and one subject was no more important than the other. How grand and historic, this President...

Thank you, Major Garret! The reporter just stood up during the Q&A at the press conference and said, "You stated in your opening remarks about Iran that you were 'appalled' and 'outraged.' What took you so long?"
That's what millions of other Americans no doubt would have asked.

|Obama doesn't endorse individual freedom and liberty except when it applies to himself and some of his fawning underlings.
Perhaps he falsely believes that most folks aren't smart enough to handle democracy and natural human liberty.
