85 Troops Die Since McChrystal’s Request

Under much criticism for the way the war on Afghanistan was being managed, Gen. David McKiernan was replaced by General McChrystal to lead what was to be a strong counterinsurgency strategy. "We couldn't pick two better officers," Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen said in May, referring to President Obama's selection of Gen. McChrystal, as the administration’s ace in the hole in Afghanistan and the man who would implement a new strategy in the the war-torn country.

Now, while General McChrystal is asking for additional troops to implement the strategy he was hand-picked to implement, officials like Vice President Joe Biden are pushing for a deja-vue approach, which de-emphasizes troop strength in favor of precise strikes on Al Qaeda, using unmanned drones for example. Let's see, where did we see this?  In Iraq perhaps?

Did I mention that Military Officers are at the top of the most trusted professions, while politicians are least trusted?

And what does the President do with General McChrystal’s request? He goes Olympic. To lobby the Olympic committee to bring the 2016 Olympic Games to Chicago and perhaps highlight the President’s achievements through a second term in the White House. We posit that what Chicago desperately needs is a different kind of Olympics: An Olympic effort to rid the city of the institutionalized corruption and the political cesspool.

For reference, since General McChrystal asked for additional troops, a total of 85 allied troops have died in Afghanistan, 17 just this month.

From where we sit, this administration has been worrying about everything, including Cash for Clunkers and the Olympics, but not on supporting the troops.

More troops, more dead

I'm confused.  So we send more troops - how many, for how long, to what end? I'm well aware of the loss of American lives - see "Bring Them Home, " (Sept. 22) and note with sadness that we lost eight more a few days ago. More troops, more dead - is that what you want your bar graph to show?

The Nothing Strategy

You are not alone - many people supporting the current administration are very much confused, as in the SNL Nothing Strategy - that is, Analysis Paralysis. Have you heard of the Doctrine Powell? For your reference, General Powell support the President, but has said nothing on the subject. Perhaps like you, he is confused.

Counterinsurgency operations requires boots on the ground

President Obama appointed a new ambassador, new commander and announced a new strategy in Afghanistan in May. Today he is getting cold feet and "rethinking" his strategy. He is negotiating with himself and dangling our NATO allies in the wind by doing so.

Resolve is what our enemy has. They are willing to do whatever it takes to win. They will die for their cause which is radical Islam's resurgence in Afghanistan, spreading to Pakistan and beyond.

We cannot lose this fight. What President Obama and the American people need is resolve. The other option - surrender and wait for the next 9/11. There is no middle ground in war. Our troops are dying while Washington dithers.

The Powell Doctrine

I trust that the Powell Doctrine and the General himself would have to agree with your assertion that what is required is boots on the ground. Resolve is what is required in Afghanistan, resolve is what the enemy has, and has demonstrated time and time again. On the other hand, one can argue that resolve is what the administration has - except that "resolve" in this case, when calibrated, the gold standard would have to be the community organizing industry - as in ACORN's resolve - that is resolved to bring about change however long it takes, at taxpayer's blood, sweat and tears.

TruthSeeker or Commenter in Chief

Just curious - is the moniker "truthseekerSBC" apropos, or simply uncalibrated - sort of like the Commenter and Chief might use, for instance.

If the moniker indeed is substantive, is this how you go about seeking the truth?

POTUS is a Joke

"Strategy"??? WHAT "strategy"?

So this is the *Obama Hope and Change* you can believe in! Oh peeeuuuke!  Where's the Hope in NO strategy?  Is this the Change that the American people thought they would be getting?  Are you kidding me!!!!!!!

Our so-called "Commander in Chief" was never so much as a Boy Scout, so what the hell does HE know!  The president recently made the comment that leaving Afghanistan was not an option.

It's NOT "Commenter" in Chief, it's "Chief Comrade."

This guy's all over the map.  He needs to pick a lane or get off the damn road.

Commenter, Commander, Comrade...Words......

As someone said, Words must mean something - unless of course the words are uncalibrated. least trusted, perhaps?

Turns out that like you and many others, he is Angry: He however, is angry at Gen McChrystal - Exhibit A why Military Officers are most trusted & Politicians are least trusted, perhaps?
